Season Two of Critically Acclaimed Original Drama “Rectify” to Debut in First Window Worldwide
Highly Anticipated Reunion Special “Monty Python Live (Mostly) One Down, Five To Go” to Premiere on Sundance Channel Global
New York, NY – 19 June 2014 – AMC/Sundance Channel Global announced today it has acquired a wide array of first run original drama and exclusive specials to fuel growth across its linear and video-on-demand (VOD) services throughout Asia, EMEA and Latin America. The announcement was made by Bruce Tuchman, President of AMC/Sundance Channel Global and MGM Channel Global.
The critically acclaimed second season of “Rectify” has been acquired from ITV Studios Global (ITVS GE) Entertainment as a first window for all Sundance Channel Global territories worldwide and will premiere this fall. This includes the Middle East & North Africa and Latin America, alongside the previously announced distribution throughout Asia and Europe. The 10×60’ series was recently called “consistently compelling” by Variety and “sublime” by Entertainment Weekly. It complements Sundance Channel’s current line-up of global hit series from AMC Networks, including “The Red Road,” “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead,” “Hell on Wheels” and “Breaking Bad,” among others.
Additionally, the highly anticipated reunion special “Monty Python Live (Mostly) One Down, Five To Go” (1×120’) has been acquired from Eagle Rock Entertainment to premiere exclusively on Sundance Channel Global. The return of Monty Python promises to be the biggest international live event of 2014 when the five remaining members perform at London’s O2 Arena next month. Sundance Channel will premiere the special live in Latin America, the Middle East and North America and at a later date in other international territories.
Tuchman commented, “AMC/Sundance Channel Global is experiencing our biggest year of growth across both linear and VOD services. These new acquisitions reinforce our commitment to offering compelling first run original programming to audiences worldwide. This includes global hits from AMC Networks alongside a diverse selection of other outstanding series and specials.”
AMC/Sundance Channel Global has also acquired a line-up of high quality series to debut later this year and in 2015 in key local territories. Further seasons of “Mr Selfridge” (10×60’) starring Jeremy Piven have been acquired from ITVS GE for Asia and Latin America. This includes season two premiering in 2014 and season three in 2015. The Australian spy thriller “The Code” (6×60’) has been acquired from DCD and will debut in Latin America later this year, along with the second season of “Borgen” (10×60’) from American Video Films.
Sundance Channel in Dutch Benelux territories will debut acclaimed British series “Peaky Blinders” (6×60’) starring Cillian Murphy from Endemol later this year, along with the award-winning Kudos drama “Utopia” (6×60’) from Shine International in 2015. For Sundance Channel in Iberia the drama “Perfidia” (8×30’) has been acquired from Kevin Williams Associates to debut in 2015, along with the second season of “Prófugos” (13×60’) from HBO to premiere at a later date.
“Rectify” is the haunting story of a man released from prison after spending nearly two decades on death row. The first season, which debuted on Sundance Channel Global exclusively last year, was overwhelmingly well received by critics and landed on numerous year-end top ten lists. “Rectify” is created and written by Ray McKinnon (“Deadwood”) and executive produced by Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, the Emmy Award® winning producers behind “Breaking Bad.” Shot on location in Georgia, the series stars Aden Young (Killer Elite) and Abigail Spencer (Oz the Great and Powerful).
“Monty Python Live (Mostly) One Down, Five To Go” will mark the first live performances on stage by the Monty Python stars since their legendary appearances at the Hollywood Bowl in 1980. At a combined age of nearly 361, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin will once again take to the stage and perform some of Monty Python’s greatest hits and some material never previously performed by the group live with the promise of some modern, topical, Pythonesque twists.
