IFC Films Nabs U.S. Rights to Donald Rice’s
CHEERFUL WEATHER FOR THE WEDDING

New York, NY (August 20, 2012) — IFC Films announced today the company is acquiring all U.S. rights to director Donald Rice’s romantic comedy CHEERFUL WEATHER FOR THE WEDDING. Rice and Mary Henely-Magill wrote the screenplay, which is based on Julia Strachey’s 1932 novel of the same name. The film stars Elizabeth McGovern, Felicity Jones, Luke Treadaway, Mackenzie Crook, Zoe Tapper, and Ellie Kendrick. Teun Hilte produced for Yellow Knife. CHEERFUL WEATHER FOR THE WEDDING had its world premiere earlier this year at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.

In the film, bride-to-be Dolly (Jones) is hiding in her bedroom on her bitterly cold wedding morning, swigging a bottle of rum, and dreaming of the romantic summer she spent with Joseph (Treadaway). Long-lost cousins and eccentric aunts are arriving at the house every hour, and the downstairs living rooms are buzzing with speculation as to the bride’s whereabouts. Exasperated by her daughter’s absence, Dolly’s scatterbrained mother Hetty (McGovern) is at her wit’s end, scurrying around the house trying to quell the relatives’ suspicions. Hetty has perfected all of the day’s arrangements, but her plans can’t prepare everyone for the one arrival she was not expecting: Joseph himself.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: "Donald Rice has made a beautiful crafted film featuring wonderful performances from Felicity Jones, Elizabeth McGovern and Luke Treadaway. The film’s romanticism will appeal to even the stoniest heart. We look forward to bringing this film to American audiences later this year."

Noted Rice: “IFC is one of the most exciting and consistent supporters of independent films in the world, and I am delighted that they have acquired CHEERFUL WEATHER FOR THE WEDDING in the US.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with UTA and Goldcrest Films International on behalf of the filmmakers.
