STARRING MATT SMITH, HANNAH MURRAY, MARIANNE RENDON, SOSIE BACON, MERRITT WEVER, SUKI WATERHOUSE, CHACE CRAWFORD, AND ANNABETH GISH

NEW YORK, NY (September 10, 2018) — IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring U.S rights to CHARLIE SAYS, directed by Mary Harron (AMERICAN PSYCHO, I SHOT ANDY WARHOL)  and produced by Dana Guerin, John Frank Rosenblum, and Cindi Rice. The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, stars Matt Smith (THE CROWN, DOCTOR WHO), Hannah Murray, Marianne Rendón, Sosie Bacon, Merritt Wever, Suki Waterhouse, Chace Crawford, and Annabeth Gish. IFC Films is planning for a 2019 theatrical release.

CHARLIE SAYS is a look at real life American psycho Charles Manson with an examination of the infamous Manson Family murders through the eyes of graduate student Karlene Faith as she works with three young, brainwashed women who were part of the cult. Initially given the death penalty for their involvement in the crimes, during which nine people were murdered including actress Sharon Tate, their sentences were ultimately commuted to life imprisonment. The film follows Faith as she attempts to teach the three women to slowly grasp the reality of their crimes, resulting in a time of deep personal transformation for all.

The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, EVP of Acquisitions and Production at IFC Films and UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmaker.
