Isabella Rossellini Celebrates Motherhood and all Its Quirky Wonder With ‘MAMMAS,’ Nine New Shorts Premiering on Sundance Channel and Sundancechannel.com This Mother’s Day, Sunday May 12

A Follow up to Rossellini’s Critically-Acclaimed Web Series 'Green Porno', ‘Mammas’ Explores Maternal Instincts in the Animal Kingdom

New York, February 6, 2013 — After showing the world the unconventional mating and scandalous sex lives of animals in her Webby-award winning, internationally acclaimed short film series "Green Porno" and "Green Porno Seduce Me," Isabella Rossellini returns to Sundance Channel and sets her provocative lens on creatures’ rites of passage into motherhood in her latest series "Mammas," airing on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12. In addition, Rossellini will bring the shorts to the Berlin Film Festival, this February (February 7-17th), where they will screen as part of Berlin’s Forum Expanded program. The webseries will be available simultaneously on Sundancechannel.com.

Featuring fantastical costumes and weirdly delightful enactments, the actress writes, directs and slips into the role of animal mother in nine episodes of "Mammas," playing non-traditional creatures and the different ways their maternal instinct is put into action in nature. From cuckoos who willingly hand their young to another mother to fiercely loving wasps who bury animals alive for baby food, Isabella’s entertaining and educational portrayals will show varying ways mothers provide for their offspring.

“The art of being a mother and how it transcends all species is captivating. These “Mammas’ may change and confound your ideas of maternity, whether it’s the inherent altruistic nature of mothers to the great lengths various creatures will take to ensure the survival of their young,” said Rossellini.

“Funny, inventive and completely irresistible, Isabella is back exploring the animal world in a way that is mind blowing and also informative for the human species,” said Sarah Barnett, General Manager, Sundance Channel. “’Mammas’ is our unorthodox Mothers Day shout out to mothers of all kinds.”

“Mammas” is written and directed by Isabella Rossellini and produced by Patrice Haddad and Claire Marquet in association with Sundance Channel.
