SUNDANCE NOW ANNOUNCES SECOND SEASON OF ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY SERIES “TAKE 5” AT SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

New Series Tackles Modern Patriotism in Five-Minute Films featuring Van Jones, Nate Boyer and others

NEW YORK, Jan. 23, 2017 – During a panel at Sundance Film Festival, Sundance Now announced its boundary-pushing short film series Take 5 is back for a second season with Take 5: A More Perfect Patriot. Sundance Now, the AMC Networks-backed streaming service that curates quality feature films, documentaries, and TV shows, is proud to present six original five-minute films meant to fuel public attention and conversation.

For season two, Sundance Now approached filmmakers who are thought leaders and storytellers and commissioned each of them to create a short, socially-conscious documentary around the subject of patriotism and what it means to be a patriot in America today. The result is a captivating and provocative original series.

In Take 5: A More Perfect Patriot, filmmakers will explore the concepts of patriots and patriotism, touching on geopolitical conflicts and hot button issues including immigration, challenging one’s government, and flag burning. Season two questions what and who is a patriot through complex narratives and vivid imagery. Take 5: A More Perfect Patriot will be available exclusively on Sundance Now in Spring 2017.

This year, the collection of short film series features a number of Academy Award® and Emmy nominated filmmakers including Jason Cohen (Silicon Cowboys), Jehane Noujaim (The Square), Keith Maitland (Tower), Kiran Deol (Woman Rebel); plus Razan Ghalayini (field producer on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) and Jordan Ching (co-founder of Northbound Films).

“This season of Take 5 is a great opportunity to bring together a large and diverse range of people around the notion of patriotism, in its many expressions,” said CNN political commentator and two time New York Times bestselling author Van Jones. Jones, a co-producer and subject of one of the new season’s upcoming films says, “Honoring diverse opinions is something that we need to reintegrate in our country and across the globe. I think you’ll find much more common ground and respect for our differences in Sundance Now’s Take 5: A More Perfect Patriot, and I’m excited to be responsible for assisting in the development of such a meaningful project.”

“We’re proud to bring together a group of accomplished and talented storytellers to tackle this important topic in a short format that has the potential to have outsized impact,” said Jan Diedrichsen, General Manager, Sundance TV and Sundance Now.
