AMC and Double Feature Films Lock First-Look Deal

Deal Marks First Time The Film Company Has Signed a First-Look to Develop TV Projects For a Cable Network

New York, NY — February 5, 2013 — AMC and Double Feature Films announced today a two-year, first look deal. The deal marks the first time Double Feature Films has entered into a first-look pact with a cable network to produce TV projects. Under the deal, Double Feature Films will develop and produce scripted cable projects for AMC. The announcement was made by AMC’s Joel Stillerman, EVP of original programming, production and digital content and Double Feature Films’ Partners Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg.

“Stacey and Michael are outstanding producers who have made an incredible range of films; along with an iconic, out of the box, television series that is still talked about today. What’s clear from looking at their body of work is that they are driven by great material, great ideas, and great talent; and they know how to put those things together. We truly look forward to collaborating with them,” said Stillerman.

Sher and Shamberg add, “It’s great to be in business with AMC. We watch the great shows on AMC all the time so we love the idea that we can see our own productions on the network. What AMC does so well is to tell great stories with fresh characters and their series truly feel like films. This gives us the opportunity to take what we are so drawn to from the film side and make our own productions on the TV side.”

The deal was brokered by Marci Wiseman, head of Business Affairs for AMC and Joe Cohen and Adam Berkowitz CAA.

Shamberg and Sher are producers and partners at Double Feature Films. Sher is a two-time Academy Award® nominee, having recently produced the new Quentin Tarantino film, “Django Unchained.” Shamberg served as an Executive Producer on Django Unchained and he is also a two-time Academy Award nominee having been nominated for Erin Brockovich with Sher, and also for “The Big Chill.”

The duo are in post-production on both “Runner Runner” with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck and “Get a Job,” starring Miles Teller and Bryan Cranston. They are in pre-production on the feature adaptation of “A Walk Among the Tombstones” with Liam Neeson. Their 2011 film “Contagion” was the third project Shamberg and Sher have done with Steven Soderbergh, including the Academy Award® nominated films “Erin Brockovich” and “Out of Sight.” Sher and Shamberg’s other credits include the Academy Award® Best Picture nominee “Pulp Fiction” and the 2005 Independent Spirit Award-winning “Garden State,” as well as films including “Reality Bites,” “Along Came Polly,” “Get Shorty” and its sequel, “Be Cool,” “Gattaca,” “World Trade Center, Freedom Writers,” and the Comedy Central television series “Reno 911,” for which Sher and Shamberg served as executive producers for all six seasons. Sher and Shamberg were honored by the ACLU for their commitment to films and television that are empowering, inspirational and thought-provoking, dealing with issues from public safety to education, social justice to censorship.
