AMC Prepares a Movie Feast With Its “Movies You’ll Thank Us For” Thanksgiving Festival Wednesday, November 27-Saturday, November 30

JERICHO, NY, November 25, 2002 – Like a Thanksgiving feast spread out on the table, there's something for everyone in AMC's "Movies You'll Thank Us For" Thanksgiving festival, airing Wednesday, November 27 through Saturday, November 30. The four-day festival encompasses a myriad of blockbuster hits including, NINE MONTHS, MARRIED TO THE MOB, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and AFRICAN QUEEN.

The festival begins on Wednesday, November 27, at 8:00 PM (ET/PT) with Stephen Spielberg's Academy Award®-winning RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981). Harrison Ford stars as archeologist Indiana Jones on a quest to find the sacred Covenant of the Lost Ark. Karen Allen co-stars as Marion Ravenwood, his shrewd, tough-talking love interest. (Also at 1 AM and on Thursday, November 28, at 3:05 PM.) Following, at 10:30 PM, Ford is back as the irrepressible Indy in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984). This time he's in India searching for a sacrosanct stone, accompanied by 12-year-old sidekick Short Round (Jonathan Ke Qwan) and nightclub singer Wilhelmina Scott (Kate Capshaw). Thursday's highlights include the romantic thriller WITNESS (1985), airing at 8:00 PM. Harrison Ford earned an Oscar® nomination for his performance as a Philadelphia cop who hides out in Pennsylvania's Amish country during a murder investigation. Kelly McGillis and Lukas Haas co-star. Nominated for eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, the film won for Best Editing and Best Screenplay. (Also at 10:30 PM and on Friday, November 29, at 5:30 PM.) In David Lean's sweeping epic LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962), at 4:45 AM, Peter O'Toole is a British Lieutenant who unites the Arabian tribes against the Turks in World War I and transforms himself into a legend in the process. Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif and Anthony Quinn co-star. With a total of 10 Oscar® nominations, the film garnered seven awards, including Best Picture.

On Friday, opposites attract in the Academy Award®-winning romance THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), airing at 9:10 AM. Humphrey Bogart is a salty riverboat captain and Katharine Hepburn is a refined missionary who fall in love as they ferry their way through East Africa in World War I. Bogart took home the Oscar® for Best Actor. (Also at 3:15 PM.) At 1:15 PM, Tom Cruise is a forest dweller who unites a band of magical creatures to save the world from evil in the scifi/fantasy LEGEND (1985), directed by Ridley Scott. Tim Curry co-stars. Later, at 8 PM (ET), Hugh Grant portrays a doctor who struggles with impending fatherhood when his girlfriend (Julianne Moore) announces she's pregnant in the comedy NINE MONTHS (1995). (Also on Saturday, November 30, at 6 PM.)

Highlights on Saturday include the comedy MAD DOG AND GLORY (1993) starring Robert DeNiro, Bill Murray and Uma Thurman, airing at 11:05 AM. When a timid police photographer (DeNiro) unwittingly saves a gangster's (Murray) life, the mob boss "rewards" him with the company of an alluring woman (Thurman). But the dalliance leads to love – and a showdown between the cop and the kingpin. (Also at 10:15 PM and 2:45 AM.) Later, at 1 PM the World War II spy thriller SHINING THROUGH (1992) airs. Michael Douglas portrays an American spy and Melanie Griffith co-stars as his secretary who must go undercover as a housekeeper for a Nazi officer (Liam Neeson). In the Jonathan Demme comedy MARRIED TO THE MOB (1988), airing at 8:00 PM, Michelle Pfeiffer portrays a young widow trying to leave the mafia behind when her husband (Alec Baldwin) is gunned down. But the mob boss (Dean Stockwell) is hot on her heels – along with two FBI undercover agents (Matthew Modine and Oliver Platt). (Also at 12:45 AM.)
