NEW YORK – May 16, 2025 – Independent Film Company announced today that they have acquired the North American rights to writer-director John-Michael Powell’s sophomore feature VIOLENT ENDS starring Billy Magnussen (LILO & STITCH), Alexandra Shipp (BARBIE), Nick Stahl (SIN CITY), James Badge Dale (THE EMPTY MAN), Emmy Award Winner Kate Burton (“Grey’s Anatomy”), and Academy Award Winner Ray McKinnon (KNOX GOES AWAY). Independent Film Company is set to release the film theatrically.

Set in the Ozark Mountains, VIOLENT ENDS follows Lucas Frost (Magnussen), an honest man brought up in a crime family whose only legacy is violence. As Lucas tries to make a peaceful life of his own with his fiancée, Emma (Shipp), he is suddenly pulled back into the family business when his cousin, Eli, perpetrates an armed robbery with brutal consequences.

“It’s a true honor to partner with Independent Film Company to bring VIOLENT ENDS to audiences. Their track record speaks for itself—they genuinely understand bold, filmmaker-driven storytelling and have consistently championed films that I love. From our very first conversation it was clear that they truly shared our team’s vision, and I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey with them as our partner,” said writer-director John-Michael Powell.

“John-Michael Powell has crafted a gripping tale of vengeance, propelled by Billy Magnussen’s magnetic and commanding performance that stuns at every turn,” said Vice President of Acquisitions and Productions Ayo Kepher-Maat. “Audiences experiencing VIOLENT ENDS will be drawn into the very essence of what makes a revenge thriller so irresistible.”

VIOLENT ENDS is produced by Vincent Sieber-Smith and Undine Buka, and executive produced by Catherine Fegan-Kim and Alex Kim via Midnight Road Entertainment and Billy Magnussen via his banner, HappyBad Bungalow. The deal was negotiated by Ayo Kepher-Maat on behalf of Independent Film Company, Pip Ngo for XYZ Films and Alex Brunner and John McGrath for UTA on behalf of the filmmakers.
