The Independent Film Channel (IFC) to Launch ‘IFC in Theaters’ January 2003

Monthly Short Form Program to Highlight Behind the Scenes Info on Current IFC Films Playing in Theaters Around the Country

Beginning in January, The Independent Film Channel will launch the premiere of 'IFC In Theaters,' a short form program that will provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at soon to be released IFC Films. The programs will feature stars and directors of the selected IFC Films theatrical release as well as showcase the home videos and DVD's available from IFC Films. Each short program will premiere the third Monday of every month at 8:30pm.

'IFC In Theaters' will kick off on January 20th with the documentary Lost In La Mancha, directed by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe. The film takes an in-depth look at the harsh realities of filmmaking, highlighting Terry Gilliam's failed attempt to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, starring Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort. Lost In La Mancha, which received critical acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival, opens in select theaters on January 31. In February, 'IFC In Theaters' will highlight The Safety of Objects directed by Rose Troche, a powerful story that intertwines the lives of four upscale neighboring families as they struggle to form honest human relationships. The stellar ensemble cast includes Glenn Close, Dermot Mulroney, Jessica Campbell, Patricia Clarkson, Joshua Jackson, Moira Kelly, Robert Klein, Timothy Olyphant and Mary Kay Place. This film will open in theaters in March.

"IFC viewers are, of course, keenly interested in independent films and we see these short form programs as a way of bringing these viewers useful information while promoting our films to a highly targeted audience," commented Ed Carroll, General Manager of IFC.

"This kind of cross promotion builds on the IFC franchise as the place for nurturing filmmakers and producing, distributing and launching independent film," said Jonathan Sehring of IFC Films.

IFC Films distributed My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the highest grossing independent film to date and such breakout films as Y Tu Mama Tambien. Recent IFC Productions include Oscar® Award-winning Boys Don't Cry, Monsoon Wedding and Girlfight.

The Independent Film Channel (IFC) is the first and most widely distributed channel dedicated to independent film presented 24 hours a day, uncut and commercial-free. IFC Entertainment, a division of IFC, consists of IFC Productions, a feature film production company; IFC Films, a theatrical film distribution company; and IFC Originals, which produces cutting-edge original programming for the network. In addition, IFC Productions launched InDigEnt, an initiative that helps established filmmakers shoot productions on digital video.
