WE: Women’s Entertainment President Kate McEnroe to Host On-Air Effort to Raise Awareness For Children Worldwide

"WE Care: Our World, Our Children" To Include World Television Premiere of Academy Award-nominated Documentary on Sunday, May 5

Jericho, New York, April 22, 2002 – WE: WOMEN'S ENTERTAINMENT will devote an evening of programming to raise awareness for children around the world when it presents "WE Care: Our World, Our Children" on Sunday, May 5. Hosted by AMC Networks President, Kate McEnroe, the network will air three inspirational original programs about disadvantaged children and the people who rescue and care for them, including the Academy Award®-nominated documentary, Artists and Orphans: A True Drama; Mama Tina; and Cool Women: A Romania Rescue.

Kate McEnroe became personally involved with the plight of children in orphanages overseas when she adopted two children from Romania a few years ago. She is actively involved with helping other families adopt children from Romania, and continues to work in assisting them navigate through the often difficult political process of international adoptions. WE: WOMEN'S ENTERTAINMENT will also post information on-air about various organizations where viewers can learn more about international and domestic adoption.

Cool Women: A Romania Rescue explores the intricate politics of adoption in the country of Romania, and the work of adoption lawyer Lia Trandafir, who has worked tirelessly to enact stricter laws to protect children from unsafe placement. The special also goes behind the scenes of the "My Child Foundation" and the work of its director, Irinel Cojocaru, who has transferred two floors of her home in Romania to care for abandoned children. Because the country has outlawed contraception, hundreds of thousands of children are born to women who are either too young or can't afford to take care of them. Irinel has created a family environment for these children, providing love, happiness and stimulation while they wait for a permanent home.
Cool Women: A Romania Rescue airs at 6:30 PM (ET) .

Mama Tina tells the remarkable and inspiring story of one woman's fight to make a difference, helping children on the streets of Vietnam find shelter and food. Christina "Mama Tina" Noble is an ordinary person leading an extraordinary life. With her trademark humor and exuberance, Mama Tina's mission is to struggle against social injustice. From her beginning in Dublin, to the streets of war-ravaged Vietnam, this is a story of hope and achievement in a world of hopelessness and tragedy. Mama Tina airs at 7:00 PM (ET) .

At 8:00 PM, WE: WOMEN"S ENTERTAINMENT will present the world television premiere of Artists and Orphans: A True Drama. The documentary tells the true story of a troupe of American actors who travel to the Republic of Georgia (former USSR) for a theater festival, finding a country having been torn by civil war, economic collapse and political upheaval. Poverty is forcing parents to leave their children at orphanages because they cannot afford to feed them. Vowing to help, the artists enter a real-life drama as they race against time and circumstance to provide everything the children are lacking to survive the looming Georgian winter. Artists and Orphans: A True Drama was nominated this year for an Academy Award® for "Best Documentary, Short Subject" for Lianne Klapper McNally as writer, producer and director.
