AMC NETWORKS INTERNATIONAL – CENTRAL AND NORTHERN EUROPE’S ORIGINAL SERIES “TABOOS WITHOUT TABOO” NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO IN NORTH AMERICA

Distributed by AMC Studios, Award-Winning Documentary Series Commissioned By Spektrum for Second Season

Budapest – 12 June 2019 – The award-winning Hungarian documentary series “Taboos Without Taboo” from AMC Networks International – Central and Northern Europe (AMCNI – CNE) is now available in North America on Amazon Prime Video. Distributed overseas by AMC Studios, the critically-acclaimed series was commissioned by AMCNI – CNE’s leading factual entertainment channel Spektrum and has been renewed for a second season.

The six-part one-hour series investigates a diverse range of taboo topics through personal stories. Subjects explored in the series include death, mourning, addictions and hidden family secrets, among many others. “Taboos Without Taboo” premiered on Spektrum in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, doubling the channel’s average viewership and receiving unprecedented critical acclaim. It went on to win coveted awards over the past year at the Mexico International Film Festival and the Jahorina International Festival.

“We’re proud to partner with AMC Studios and Amazon Prime Video to enable audiences in North America to watch one of our most acclaimed original series, the first-ever Hungarian factual production to be made available on this platform,” Levente Málnay, EVP / MD of AMC Networks International – Central and Northern Europe.  “This series highlights the strength of Spektrum’s exclusive documentary series, which continue to garner critical acclaim, strong viewership and industry recognition for their outstanding production values and compelling subject matter. We’re looking forward to the new season which is in production in Budapest and will premiere later this year.”

Forty stories are introduced in “Taboos Without Taboo” – stories of real people, told in their own words and in their own surroundings. Spektrum enabled a dedicated and passionate team to meticulously research and prepare the topics over the course of a year. When the documentary series debuted on Spektrum, Hungary’s Pulitzer Prize winning cultural weekly publication Magyar Narancs called it “undoubtedly the most gripping television series of the past few years,” while one of the country’s top news sites, 24.hu, called ita deep and unique (achievement) in factual television.” In addition to winning key festival awards, the series was shortlisted at the Content Innovation Awards in France, the Oniros Film Awards in Italy and the Swiss Mediterranean Film Festival.

Produced for Spektrum by Budapest-based Hungarian production company Advanced Communication Group (ACG), the series is executive produced by Endre Mentes, directed by Norbert Pálinkás, and hosted by popular Hungarian actor Szabolcs Thuróczy.
