BDSSP Celebrates Successful Debut Year With First-Ever ‘Best Damnies’

Irreverent Awards Honor Show’s Best During Special Telecast

The BEST DAMN SPORTS SHOW PERIOD takes an irreverent look back at the best moments and guests from the show’s standout first season during the first annual “Best Damnies,” on Thursday, July 4 at 9:30 PM as part of BDSSP’s All-Star Summer celebration.

An all-star list of Hollywood heavyweights showed up to share in the light-hearted festivities, with celebrities such as William Shatner, Jerry Springer, Gary Busey, Brian Cranston (“Malcolm in the Middle”) joining athletes Keyshawn Johnson and Joanie Laurer (WWE’s Chyna) for in-studio appearances with the BDSSP cast. Taped segments from skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, Texas Tech basketball coach Bobby Knight and Dallas Mavericks billionaire owner Mark Cuban are also featured.

Off-beat awards will be bestowed in 11 separate categories, including: Best Damn Interview, Best Damn Impersonation and Best Damn Celebrity Endorsement. The complete list of categories is as follows:

In keeping with Hollywood tradition, the first-ever “Best Damnies” also features Joan and Melissa Rivers impersonators, mock-interviewing guests and cast during arrivals on the red carpet, joined by Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Clinton impersonators for added fun.

The “Best Damnies” on BDSSP is part of the show’s All-Star Summer, a month of special programming from June 24 to July 19 designed to celebrate a successful first year that saw expansion, audience growth and critical acclaim. All-Star Summer is filled with big-name guests from both the sports and entertainment worlds. Special programming (like UFC on BDSSP and Tom Arnold’s Celebrity Bachelor Party/Roast); road trips to New York, Chicago and the MLB All-Star Game in Milwaukee; interviews with sports stars like Barry Bonds, Pedro Martinez, Derek Jeter, Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling; exciting viewer contests like Win A Date With A Professional Cheerleader; and more, provide viewers with an all-access pass to a summer of fun.

BEST DAMN SPORTS SHOW PERIOD, which debuted July 23, 2001, features host Chris Rose, former pros D’Marco Farr (NFL), John Kruk (MLB) and John Salley (NBA) and actor/comedian Tom Arnold as the voice-of-the-fan. Former Dallas Cowboys superstar wide receiver Michael Irvin is a special contributor during All-Star Summer. The versatile Lisa Guerrero provides sports updates and highlights and feature interviews, Leeann Tweeden is the show’s correspondent and Lisa Joyner supplies the Best Damn Insider entertainment report.

BEST DAMN SPORTS SHOW PERIOD airs in prime time for two hours (as alternative programming when a home team game isn’t on) at 8:00 PM with a re-air of the show at 10:00 PM. A special Saturday night midnight edition airs each week, featuring a “Best Of” the prior week’s show.
