Boston Celtics Basketball Arrives in Meriden Connecticut on Cox 51 in Time for First Matchup With The New York Knicks

BURLINGTON, MA – Cox Communications and Fox Sports Net (FSN) announced today that beginning with the Celtics game on Monday, November 17, against the New York Knicks, residents of Meriden Connecticut and surrounding towns can watch FSN's exclusive coverage of Celtics basketball on Cox channel 51.

"With the arrival of Danny Ainge and the new ownership, excitement over the Boston Celtics continues to grow throughout the region. The timing could not have been better to add Fox Sports Net's Boston Celtics telecasts to our programming lineup," said Paul Cronin, Cox Communications general manager. "The addition of Boston Celtics basketball is great news for the many Celtics fans in the Meriden system."

The NBA lifted the territorial restriction that previously prevented Cox from carrying FSN's Boston Celtics telecasts in previous seasons for its 38,000 Meriden subscribers.

"FSN, Cox and the NBA worked together on this issue, and we are excited that our telecasts, which feature NBA Hall of Famer and Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn and veteran play-by-play man Mike Gorman, will now reach cable subscribers in Meriden," said David Woodman, Fox Sports Net New England senior vice president and general manager.

Gorman and Heinsohn are entering their 23rd season calling Celtics basketball, and as a pair they are the longest running on-air announcing team in the country. The two began their career together in 1979, calling Providence College basketball games.

"I, along with every Celtics fan, look forward to seeing the new crop of Celtics contribute to a team fronted by NBA All-Star Paul Pierce," said Heinsohn. "If all the pieces fit together, this team has a chance to go deep into the NBA playoffs."

"Marcus Banks appears to be the type of point guard they have been looking for and Danny has shown he's right at home wheeling and dealing in the NBA," said Gorman. "He's made solid moves. I think fans are really going to like this team."

For the up-to-the-minute pre and post-game news on the Celtics, fans can watch Mohegan Sun's New England Sports Tonight (NEST) presented by the Boston Herald most weekday game nights at 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. NEST, hosted by Gary Tanguay and Greg Dickerson, is the only place for fans to get Gorman and Heinsohn's game night insight on Celtics action.
