IFC Midnight Takes US And UK Rights to Alex De La Iglesia’s As Luck Would Have It

New York, NY – April 25, 2012 – IFC Midnight announced today that the company is acquiring all US and UK rights to director Alex De La Iglesia’s AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT. The film, which was produced by Andres Vicente Gomez and Ximo Perez, world premiered as a special screening at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and is having its North American premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival in the Spotlight Section. Starring Jose Mota, Salma Hayek, Blanco Portillo, and Fernando Tejero, the project was executive produced by Jenette Kahn and Adam Richman. AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT was nominated for 2 Goya Awards including Best Actress (Salma Hayek) and Best New Actor (Jose Mota).

Roberto is an unemployed and broke advertising executive, turned down by every agency he has applied to for a job. His finances are in despair and he is on the verge of loosing himself. Nobody seems to be bothered that he was the brains behind Coca Cola’s mega-famous slogan: COKE IS IT! All of this is about to change when he finds himself hanging onto life by a thread, following a terrible accident. The emergency services, the firemen and the paramedics are at a loss on how to free him from where he is trapped. The dramatic and somewhat absurd nature of the accident generates media attention and so taking advantage of his advertising experience, the protagonist decides to milk the situation, turning it into a media spectacle. He hires an agent with one thought in mind: sell the TV exclusive to secure his family’s future.

Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: "We’ve been big fans of Alex De Iglesias’ work for years, and we’re happy to be working with him on his latest film AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT.  It’s as smart as it is entertaining and it features wonderful performances by Jose Mota and Salma Hayek."

The deal for AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman, Director of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Marina Fuentes of 6 Sales on behalf of the filmmakers.
