Produced by Dirty Films, filming is underway in Hong Kong for Jenny Suen’s English language debut.
NEW YORK, NY – November 13, 2025 – Independent Film Company announced today that they have acquired the North American rights to Jenny Suen’s PEACHES. Currently in production in Hong Kong, the film stars Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets, The Boogeyman, Companion, Heretic) and Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms, Tuner, Mayday). PEACHES is set for a theatrical release through Independent Film Company and mk2 is bringing the film to international buyers at AFM, where international sales are underway.
Set in contemporary Hong Kong, PEACHES follows best friends Nora (Thatcher) and Bing Bing (Liu), two spoiled best friends who scam sugar daddies for a living. When they discover that a coveted Hermès Birkin bag they were gifted is a fake, their “boyfriends” and their crimes quickly catch up with them, sending the pair on a wild romp through Hong Kong. A fun, fast-paced satirical comedy, PEACHES is inspired by Vera Chitylova’s 1966 Daisies.
Said Director Jenny Suen, “I am floored by Sophie and Havana’s uproarious performances as best friends indulging in all that Hong Kong has to offer. Their chemistry onscreen is undeniable. I’m grateful to my Dirty Films collaborators Coco Francini, Cate Blanchett, and Andrew Upton for supporting my vision, and to Independent Film Company and MK2 for sharing it with the world.”
Coco Francini of Dirty Films said “Seeing the logo for the Independent Film Company has always signified that you were about to experience something daring and distinctive, the kind of work that shaped my own love of cinema. To have Peaches find its home there feels like a full-circle moment. Sophie Thatcher and Havana Rose Liu bring extraordinary depth and vitality to Jenny Suen’s uniquely audacious vision, and we could not ask for a better home or more inspiring collaborators.”
“From the moment we read the script we were enamored by the sheer joy and absurd cleverness of the story,” said Rachael Labes of Independent Film Company’s Acquisition team. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this vibrant, imaginative film to audiences.”
PEACHES is produced by Coco Francini and Executive Produced by Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton of Dirty Films (Upcoming Alpha Gang, Sweetsick, Fingernails). Jacqueline Liu of One Cool Workshop Limited and Suen also produce.
Executive Producers are Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor for BondIt Media Capital, Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett for Pinky Promise, Patrick Patterson and Joel Reilly for Undisputed Pictures, Tristan Strathy, Harriet Harper-Jones, Jesse Ozeri, Sam Pressman and Sara MacFarlane.
The deal was negotiated by Rachael Labes on behalf of Independent Film Company and CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.
About Jenny Suen
Jenny Suen is a writer, producer, and film director. She was born and raised in Hong Kong.
THE WHITE GIRL is her first feature film as a director. She wrote, produced, and co-directed it with legendary cinematographer Christopher Doyle. It stars Joe Odagiri in a tropical-noir love story set in the last fishing village of Hong Kong. It had its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, was nominated for Best Feature Film at the Torino Film Festival, and nominated for a NETPAC award at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
Suen also produced HONG KONG TRILOGY, a cinematic portrait of the city’s residents in childhood, youth, and old age, which was also directed by Doyle. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015.
She’s an alumnus of Tokyo Talents, Berlinale Talents, and her next feature project, PEACHES, was selected for Cinemart (2019) at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Berlinale Co-production Market (2019), and the Tribeca All Access Program (2020), and the Network of Asian Fantastic Films at Korean’s Bucheon International Asian Fantastic Film Festival (2021), where it won the top prize, where the jury praised “the filmmaker’s intrepid vigour and the brilliant premise of transposing the chaotic and critical satire of Vera Chytilova’s Daisies to the milieu of contemporary Hong Kong. Of all the films in the market, none felt as timely, as rousing, or as fun as Jenny’s delirious and wonderful vision.”
Suen studied at the University of Pennsylvania where she graduated summa cum laude, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and named Dean’s Scholar, a distinction given to the top ten students of the graduating class. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Comparative Literature, Political Science, and East Asian Languages and Civilisation.
