“Super Chunky Summer” Gives Viewers the Voice to Pick Top Songs of Summer Through Network Website

NEW YORK — Starting August 3 and running through September 8, muchmusic usa will launch a network-wide promotion so rich in music programming, the network has decided to name it, “Super Chunky Summer.”

This six-week long interactive promotion will virtually take over the music network for the coming two months and features a combination plate of daily, weekly and weekend programming that lays the music on thick and gives viewers the chance to crown the “Super Chunky” songs of summer 2002.

Marc Juris, President of muchmusic usa, says, “Because music plays such an important role in the lives of young people, the ability to lend their voices in deciding the music by which they’ll remember summer 2002 is a big draw for them to our network. It’s this viewer interaction that is the heart of muchmusic usa.”

At the center of the promotion is the “Super Chunky Super Countdown,” a daily (Monday through Friday) 30-minute video countdown show with favorite songs being voted upon by viewers on muchmusic usa’s website, This staple show, to debut August 5, will feature five songs being counted down every day, with the top 30-voted videos to be aired on a special “Super Chunky Super Songs of Summer” weekend to close the campaign on September 8.

Juris continues, “The rest of the summer campaign will focus on blocks of core shows on the weekends, including two celebrity specials, and all leading up to the final show where we’ll debut our viewers’ favorite videos. For the duration, all of muchmusic usa will take on the look and feel of the ‘Super Chunky’ theme.”

Each “Super Chunky Weekend Kick-Off” show will serve up an entree-sized three hour block of a core muchmusic usa program each weekend. To air over the six week long promotion, the menu includes the “Super Chunky Super Beat,” a new 100% hip-hop video show (8/9), and two celebrity specials featuring the likes of Nelly, Wyclef Jean, Linkin Park and Korn (both airing 8/31).

Off-the-menu specials featured each weekend will be core shows with a “Super Chunky” twist, including Uranium (8/3) Oven Fresh (8/10), Dedicate Live (8/17), and Mixtape Mixdown (8/24).

On September 8, the final weekend of the promotion, a special dessert-course “Super Chunky Super Songs of Summer” will be devoted to the top 30 favorite videos as voted upon by fans over the 6-week period.

For music fans who like big, thick portions of videos and the chance to vote on their favorite songs, tell them to order up muchmusic usa this summer and make it “Super Chunky” thick.
