Pearl Jam's New Performance Special, "Live from Chop Suey," to Air Exclusively on muchmusic usa

Effort Signifies Growing Co-Promotion Opportunities Between Epic and the Fast-Growing, Viewer-Driven Digital Music Network

New York, NY, January 29, 2003 – Epic Records is partnering with muchmusic usa, the nation's only independent music network, for the U.S. premiere of Pearl Jam's television special, "Live from Chop Suey."

This rare half-hour special captures the band in a reflective mode – speaking about, and performing three songs from, their current release, "Riot Act," at one of their favorite haunts, Seattle's Chop Suey Restaurant. The special will premiere February 2 at 7:00 PM (EST) on muchmusic usa (encore at 10:00 PM). This special will be followed at 7:30 PM (EST) by the half-hour show "Pearl Jam Flow" featuring 30 minutes of both vintage and new Pearl Jam.

Typically media shy, Pearl Jam focuses their energy on communicating directly with their huge and very loyal fan base. "Pearl Jam is a band that has invested its energy and reputation in upturning the industry status quo to best serve the interest of its fans." stated Doug McVehil Vice President of Video Promotion for Epic Records.

"muchmusic usa has always been focused on one guiding principle: empowering our viewers with ownership and control of what they listen to and watch," stated muchmusic usa President Marc Juris. "We know our audience is very active and passionate about their music choices. We understand that Pearl Jam's audience is the same, so this premiere underscores a natural overlap."

"When it comes to music television, we're the independent outlaw that's willing to go to any end to give viewers what they want." added Juris.

In the past year alone, muchmusic usa more than tripled the hours of its original programming with the debut of popular new music series like Dedicate Live!, Soundtrack of Your Life, and the heavy metal showcase, Uranium. On January 21, the network fused live television and interactive game play with the premiere of IMX: Interactive Music Exchange. IMX is a fully converged music industry simulation that lets viewers win prizes by investing in new artists and songs. It is driven by robust content on muchmusic's website (www.mmusa.tv) and a live, daily, one-hour show that airs on the cable network Monday – Friday at 6:00 PM (EST)
