The Fox Sports Net Sports Awards Salutes Chicago’s Sports Stars At Annual Dinner Benefiting The March Of Dimes

(Chicago) — An impressive line-up of some of Chicago’s best-known professional athletes will take center stage to receive honors at the annual Fox Sports Net Sports Awards benefiting the March of Dimes. The dinner and live telecast will be held Monday, February 12, 2001, at the Chicago Hilton & Towers, 720 N. Michigan Avenue.

The honorees include players from all of Chicago’s professional teams: Ron Artest of the Bulls, Bob Probert of the Blackhawks, Marcus Robinson of the Bears, Mike Sirotka for the White Sox, Tom Soehn of the Fire and Eric Young of the Cubs. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to retired Blackhawks hockey legend/current Blackhawks assistant coach and recently inducted Hockey Hall of Famer Denis Savard.

One of the highlights of the evening is the presentation of the Inspirational Athlete of the Year award. This year’s honoree is Rob Novicki, 29, of Wheaton, Illinois. Rob was born with Down Syndrome, but it hasn’t stopped him from being the best he can be in sports or any other activity. He started in Special Olympics when he was eight years old and has been going strong since that time. He likes to challenge himself and participates in bowling, basketball, volleyball, softball, gymnastics, aquatics, track and field and tennis.

Prior to the telecast, guests attending the dinner will have a chance to place bids on an exceptional variety of silent auction items featuring autographed sports memorabilia, tickets to local professional sporting events and travel packages to exciting destinations.
