WE: Women’s Entertainment Celebrates Love & Laughter On ‘Great Romances’

PASADENA, CA – Laughter makes the heart grow fonder this February, as WE: WOMEN’S ENTERTAINMENT celebrates the love stories of Hollywood’s legendary comedic couples with a week-long festival of its original series “Great Romances.” Comedic couples featured include Gilda Radner and Gene Wilder; Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz; George Burns and Gracie Allen; Charlie and Oona Chaplin; and Katharine and Spencer Tracy. An episode will air each week night at 8:30 PM/ET, Monday, February 5 through Friday, February 9,

Gilda Radner & Gene Wilder airs Monday, February 5 at 8:30 PM/ET
When two of Hollywood’s craziest comic talents were married, it seemed like the start of a great movie partnership. However, cancer claimed the life of Gilda only five short years after their marriage.

Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz airs Tuesday, February 6 at 8:30 PM/ET
Perhaps the best-known married couple on television, Lucy and Desi met in 1940 and were married shortly after. They starred as husband and wife both on and off screen in “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” and had two children together.

George Burns & Gracie Allen airs Wednesday, February 7 at 8:30 PM/ET
George and Gracie were two of America’s best-loved vaudevillians and movie stars who capped dazzling careers by making it big in television. After Gracie’s death, the cigar-chomping George became an American showbiz institution.


Charlie and Oona Chaplin airs Thursday, February 8 at 8:30 PM/ET

The great love of this consummate filmmaker’s life was Oona O’Neill, the daughter of playwright Eugene O’Neill. They were married in 1943 despite her father’s strong disapproval — Chaplin was 54 and O’Neill just 18.


Katharine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy Airs Friday, February 9 at 8:30 PM/ET

Theirs was one of the greatest Hollywood romances, a remarkable meeting of opposites. The deep feeling Hepburn and Tracy had for each other is preserved in a series of films they starred in together, the first of which was the 1941 hit “Woman of the Year”.

GREAT ROMANCES contains Hollywood movie footage and candid personal films, the majority of which have not been shown before on television. The materials come from three personal Hollywood collections that are being brought to the screen for the first time. “GREAT ROMANCES” is a Nugus Martin Production for BBC Worldwide and WE: WOMEN’S ENTERTAINMENT.
