Fox Sports Net’s Emmy Award Winning Hockey East Coverage Continues In 2000-01

Hockey East line-up to kick off with BC vs. BU battle on January 7th

WOBURN, MA – Extending a three-year relationship that has brought Hockey East action into millions of households, Fox Sports Net New England announced today that it will renew an exclusive deal with Hockey East to ensure that Hockey East will continue to be telecast by Fox Sports Net through the 2001-02 season. David Woodman, Senior Vice President/General Manager, Fox Sports Net New England made the announcement.

“Hockey East is the best college hockey in America,” said Woodman. “We are pleased to be the television home of Hockey East for the future and will continue to bring its exciting action and our coverage of the NCAA tournament to hockey fans throughout New England.”

The fifteen game schedule begins with a classic Boston battle, Boston University at Boston College, on January 7, 2001. The deal includes nine regular season contests during the 2000-01 season and two to three Hockey East quarterfinal matches as well as the semifinals and the championship game at the FleetCenter in mid-March. Complete Hockey East results and highlights will be featured regularly on Fox Sports Net’s newly launched 11PM Regional Sports Report and 6:30PM New England Sports Tonight. Launched July 31st, these 30-minute newscasts will provide full league coverage in addition to continuing news from the Celtics, Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox.

“We are very pleased with the increasing amount of exposure we will be receiving this season and beyond, especially through our continuing partnership with Fox Sports Net New England,” said Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna. “Their network has enabled us to reach fans that would otherwise be out of our range of influence and we look forward to sharing that advantage for years to come.”

Highlighting Fox Sports Net’s schedule of storied rivalries is one of the most anticipated games of the year. On January 27th, Maine and Boston College will tussle in a rematch of the 2000 Hockey East title game in which Maine sealed a 2-1 win at 19:57 in the 3rd period.

On-air talent for this season’s Hockey East broadcasts will be announced at a later date.
