IFC Films Acquires Jim McKay’s Critically Acclaimed Our Song

LOS ANGELES – November 21, 2000 – IFC Films has acquired all North American distribution rights to writer director Jim McKay’s new drama,
Our Song, which has screened to critical acclaim at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and MoMA’s New Directors/New Films, it was announced today by Bob Berney, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Distribution for IFC Films.

Our Song was also produced by McKay with Paul Mezey and Diana Williams, and executive produced by Caroline Kaplan, Jonathan Sehring and Michael Stipe. The film is a C-Hundred Film Corp., Beech Hill Films and Journeyman Pictures production in partnership with IFC Productions.p
IFC Films is planning a May 2001 release for Our Song, the second feature film from McKay, whose Girls Town received the Filmmakers Trophy and a Special Jury Award at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival.

Our Song is a beautiful and poetic film portraying life in the inner city,” says Berney. “It is very important for IFC Films to support this New York-based story with a theatrical release that reaches all the communities in New York, as well as across the country.”

Our Song, which was shot entirely on location, is a very atypical coming-of-age drama featuring Kerry Washington, Anna Simpson and Melissa Martinez as members of the real-life Jackie Robinson Steppers Marching Band. The film follows these three characters during the closing days of summer as they grapple with difficult decisions, unavoidable conflict, and life-changing circumstances in the inner city.

IFC Films is a new theatrical film distribution company that is releasing Spring Forward, starring Ned Beatty and Liev Schreiber, in December, and is planning a Summer 2001 release of acclaimed Swedish director Lukas Moodysson’s new comedy, Together. IFC Films has also recently acquired the fourth DOGME film, The King Is Alive.

IFC Films is a division of The Independent Film Channel’s IFC Entertainment Division, a division of Bravo Networks. IFC Entertainment also consists of IFC Productions, a feature film production company, Next Wave Films, a finishing fund company and IFC Originals, which produces original programming for the network.
