NEW YORK, NY (January 21, 2014) – IFC Midnight announced today that the company is acquiring U.S. rights to Guillermo Amoedo’s ELI ROTH PRESENTS THE STRANGER. The film, written and directed by Amoedo, stars Lorenza Izzo, Aaron Burns, Ariel Levy, Nicolás Durán, Cristobal Tapia-Mont and Louis Gniecho. The film was produced by Miguel Asensio, Nicolás López and Eli Roth, and executive produced by Cassian Elwes. ELI ROTH PRESENTS THE STRANGER premiered at the 2014 Fantastic Fest, and won the Best Iberoamerican Film Award at the 2014 Sitges – Catalonian International Film Festival.

In the film, a mysterious man arrives in a small Canadian town seeking his wife. His presence triggers a bizarre and deadly chain of events that transforms the community into a bloodbath.

“I’m incredibly proud of my KNOCK KNOCK/ GREEN INFERNO/ AFTERSHOCK co-writer Guillermo Amoedo’s directing debut. Guillermo made a very beautiful, haunting, and creepy film that was stunningly photographed in Chile. It’s a gem of a movie, one that needs special handling, and we could not be in better hands than IFC Midnight. They’ve been releasing incredibly smart, well done unique genre movies and we’re proud to be part of their label. I think the film will really surprise people, with superb performances across the board, especially from newcomer Nicolas Duran, who I believe could get real critical recognition from his breakthrough performance,” says Eli Roth.

Nicolas Lopez adds: “I have made 8 movies with Guillermo Amoedo as co-writer and I’m really proud of being a producer (along my partner Miguel Asensio Llamas) of his directorial debut. ELI ROTH PRESENTS THE STRANGER is a new spin of a classic genre and a exciting new addition to the Chilewood movement.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by Sean Berney, Manager of Acquisitions from Sundance Selects/IFC Films with CAA and Cassian Elwes on behalf of the filmmakers.
