“LA FORTUNA,” THE FIRST TELEVISION SERIES BY ALEJANDRO AMENÁBAR, PREPARES FINAL PHASE OF FILMING IN LOCATIONS IN NORTHERN SPAIN AND NORTH AMERICA

Movistar+ is producing “La Fortuna” with AMC Studios in collaboration with MOD Pictures

First images from “La Fortuna” released

New York, NY – February 25, 2021 – “La Fortuna” is preparing its final phase of filming in locations in northern Spain and North America. First images from the production have been released and can be viewed here.

The original Movistar+ series, which will premiere this fall on the platform in Spain, began filming last August and will end in spring.

This first television series by Oscar-winning director Alejandro Amenábar is an ambitious international project starring Álvaro Mel as the young diplomat Álex Ventura and Ana Polvorosa in the role of Lucía, his colleague and sidekick. The cast of “La Fortuna” also features some hugely popular faces from the American film and TV world such as Stanley Tucci, Oscar nominee for The Lovely Bones, in the role of treasure hunter Frank Wild; Clarke Peters (“The Wire”), as lawyer Jonas Pierce, and T’Nia Miller (“Years & Years”) as lawyer Susan McLean. The main cast list is rounded off with Karra Elejalde, Manolo Solo, Blanca Portillo and Pedro Casablanc, among others.

Movistar+ is producing this series of six 45-minute episodes, which will premiere exclusively on Movistar+ in Spain in 2021 as well as AMC and AMC+ in the United States and AMC in Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, in conjunction with AMC Studios and MOD Pictures. International distribution is carried out by Beta Film, a strategic partner of Movistar +.

Alejandro Amenábar is back behind the cameras following the huge success of his feature film While at War (Original Movistar+) to direct all the episodes of the TV series produced by Fernando Bovaira (MOD Pictures) and Domingo Corral (Movistar+), sharing screenwriting credits with Alejandro Hernández.

Series synopsis
Álex Ventura, a young and inexperienced diplomat, unintentionally becomes the leader of a mission that will put all his convictions to the test: to recover the sunken treasure stolen by Frank Wild, an adventurer who travels the world plundering items of common heritage from the depths of the sea. Forming a unique team with Lucía, a combative public official, and Jonas Pierce, a brilliant American lawyer with a passion for old pirate tales, Álex sets out on the adventure of a lifetime, on which he learns about the importance of love, friendship and commitment to your own beliefs.
