Monsterfest 2000: The Classics Come Alive On American Movie Classics & www.amctv.com

Classic Film Network Teams with Universal Studios to Create a Myriad of On-Line Mayhem to Establish First ‘Converged’ Festival

BETHPAGE, NY – September
25, 2000 – Every Halloween, AMERICAN MOVIE
CLASSICS features an unrivaled array of horror
films and related programming, designed to
delight viewers of all ages. This year’s event,
MONSTERFEST 2000: THE CLASSICS COME
ALIVE
, airing October 27-31, is a
58-film, five-day celebration, of monsters
through the ages, co-hosted by comedian (and
horror movie fan) Whoopi Goldberg, and by
everyone’s favorite “head turner,”
Linda Blair (“The Exorcist). But for the
first time ever, the network is taking this
signature event to the world of cyberspace. AMC
has collaborated with Universal Studios to
create a “fully converged” festival
with a month of information and technology rich
on-line promotional content at www.amctv.com
that complements and extends upon the on-air films and specials airing on this popular cable network.

To help celebrate this
year’s monster-ous extravaganza, AMERICAN MOVIE
CLASSICS has developed an exciting on-line
experience featuring THE HAUNTED BACKLOT
SCREAM TEST
trivia game, a national
sweepstakes, a HAUNTED BACKLOT TOUR

and more.

NATIONAL ON-LINE SWEEPSTAKES
To
participate, users visit www.amctv.com and click on the link to the Monsterfest home page. Once they log in they can enter the sweepstakes once a day from October 1-31. The grand prize is a luxurious four-day trip for two to the world premiere of next summer’s hottest movie, “The Mummy Returns.”

THE HAUNTED BACKLOT SCREAM TEST
This interactive trivia game commences
October 27, however, visitors can begin to
accumulate points on October 1 in a variety of
ways including correctly answering hidden bonus
questions (clues will be given by on-air hosts
Whoopi Goldberg and Linda Blair, October 27-31),
playing Shockwave games (one game per week for
the month of October), answering a daily poll,
telling a friend about the site, and simply
logging in. The trivia questions will be rolled
out over the five-day competition, and feature
multiple-choice questions that test users’
knowledge of monster movies. DVD players and one
DVD movie will be awarded to the 100 site-goers
who post the highest scores. But they needn’t be
experts in the genre, because by watching AMC’s
on-air festival, and by visiting the
HAUNTED BACKLOT TOUR on www.amctv.com
, many of the answers can be deduced.

HAUNTED BACKLOT TOUR
Next stop
is the HAUNTED BACKLOT TOUR
, which prepares surfers to play the interactive trivia game and compete for other prizes by touring the backlot to see rare material from the Universal horror archives, from test sketches for costumes, internal memos, rare photos and other information that will help them maximize their score. This multi-media experience will be viewed via 360-degree view of classic monster sets on the Universal backlot using QuickTime Virtual Reality.

“We are delighted to offer monster movie fans this exciting, enhanced, multi-media game,” noted Marc Juris, Sr. VP, Original Programming, Packaging and Production. “By offering a multi-layered, enlightening and entertaining experience both on-air and on-line, we continue our tradition of bringing viewers great movies and the stories behind them, using multiple platforms to ensure a rich and satisfying experience.”

MONSTERFEST
2000: THE CLASSICS COME ALIVE

will feature films spanning classic Universal titles like FRANKENSTEIN (1931), DRACULA (1931), THE MUMMY (1932) and THE WOLF MAN (1941) that launched the genre, to the remakes of the ’50s-’70s that have kept monsters at the top of Hollywood’s star pantheon. The festival begins on-air October 27.

AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS
is the premiere 24-hour movie network featuring
award-winning original productions about the
world of American film. With one of the finest,
most comprehensive libraries of classic films
from the 1930s through the 1980s and a diverse
