BETHPAGE, New York, July 26, 2000 – ON YOUR MARK – – GET SET – – GO – – – ROMANCE CLASSICS presents a film marathon of Olympic proportions, all set in the stunning Australian landscape, giving viewers a well-deserved break from Olympic “trials.” Beginning Saturday, September 16 at 2:00 PM, and concluding Sunday, September 17, at 12:30 AM (ET), ROMANCE CLASSICS presents “Cinema Down Under: An Olympic Event,” a two-day Australian film festival offered as an alternative to opening Olympic ceremonies. Viewers will also see performances by leading Australian actors, Mel Gibson and Russell Crowe.
Set in the spectacular Australian landscape, the weekend marathon will present films such as SUMMER CITY, featuring the screen debut of Academy Award winning Aussie Actor Mel Gibson, as one of four young men in Sydney for a weekend of adventure and surfing; HAMMERS OVER THE ANVIL, starring Russell Crowe and Charlotte Rampling, about a local horse trainer and an aristocratic English beauty who engage in a torrid affair; DEAR CLAUDIA, starring Bryan Brown as a shy mailman on a deserted Australian island with Claudia (Alexsandra Vujcic); and THE COCA-COLA KID, with Eric Roberts and Greta Scacchi, about a Coca-Cola marketing whiz who travels to Australia to improve sales down under.
