Original Documentary Is Cornerstone of "Winning Beginnings," Network's Tribute to Women in History Month

Pasadena, CA, January 17, 2002 – Women of all ages and occupations have one thing in common – they were little girls who experienced special moments in their lives that helped define who they are today. WHEN I WAS A GIRL, airing on WE: WOMEN'S ENTERTAINMENT, March 31 at 8PM ET, reveals the personal side of some of today's most recognizable women. From all walks of life — business, entertainment, politics, and sports — each of their stories are unique and individual, but when told collectively, demonstrate the shared experiences of all girls. This one-hour original documentary is executive produced by broadcast journalist veteran Linda Ellerbee, and serves as the cornerstone for the network's tribute to women making history, "Winning Beginnings." Johnson & Johnson brands Viactiv and Motrin sponsor the special.

Hosted by actress Stockard Channing, WHEN I WAS A GIRL highlights the significant moments in a girl's life; experiences that had a lasting impact. Some of the women featured include: Candice Bergen, The Sopranos' Edie Falco, astronaut Sally Ride, Just Shoot Me's Wendie Malick, The X-File's Gillian Anderson, world-renowned opera sensation Denyce Graves, former Clinton advisor Dee Dee Myers, WNBA star Lisa Leslie, Pulitzer prize-winning author Anna Quindlen, and Children's Defense Fund activist Mariam Wright Edelman. The documentary traces their journeys from girls to women, recalling stories from childhood that put them on the path to who they are today.

"Some of the most powerful connections among women are rarely documented in history books," comments Linda Ellerbee. "Emotional ties connect women. They are the ties that bind us, move us, and often make us double-over with laughter. They are connections of the heart. I wanted to create a documentary where women of all ages and from all professions could share their experiences and celebrate our collective history as girls."
