The Beales of Grey Gardens a Film by the Maysles Brothers

Another Visit to the World of the Women of the Maysles' Classic Grey Gardens Premieres in IFC Center's "Waverly Midnights" Z
Program, Weekends Starting July 21

THE BEALES OF GREY GARDENS, a new film by the Maysles Brothers created from unseen footage originally shot for their classic GREY GARDENS, will screen as part of the IFC Center's "Waverly Midnights" program on July 21-22, July 28-29 and August 4-5 at midnight.

A love letter to the fans of the original film and to the two women at its heart, THE BEALES OF GREY GARDENS is drawn entirely from never-before-seen material from the Maysles archive. Edited from hours and hours of footage shot between 1973 and 1976, THE BEALES captures 'Big' Edie and 'Little' Edie at their resplendent, dazzling and exasperating best-philosophizing on God, love and war amidst the disorder of their ramshackle East Hampton mansion, with a montage tribute to Little Edie's inimitable style and showstopping outfits. This intimate and transfixing portrait of the Beales, iconic figures since the release of GREY GARDENS some thirty years ago, brings us ever closer to the baroque mystery of their lives together.

"Documentary at its best records what you might call the 'near life' experience. So close and so intimate that the viewer feels that experience as his or her own-at times even feeling that they were present at the events themselves? With both the Edies now gone you might call these scenes the afterlife experience. I can only hope that fans of GREY GARDENS will be as delighted as I was to engage anew with The Beales."-Albert Maysles
