New York, NY – April 4, 2007 – Equator HD, the first high-definition channel dedicated to exploring the world's most intriguing people and amazing places with intelligent programs about global adventure and green living, named Ali Hossaini Executive Producer from Director of Acquisitions for the channel. Reporting to Bill Roberts, Hossaini will oversee all acquisitions, co-productions and original series on the channel. Equator HD is one of the VOOM HD Networks, the largest and most diverse suite of high-definition channels nationwide and currently available on DISH Network.
"Ali has made outstanding contributions to VOOM HD Networks by helping the brand to grow and to mature while building on its reputation for delivering the best in high-definition programming," said Roberts. "His diverse experience, strong television background and his personal involvement in green issues makes him the ideal talent to lead Equator HD's programming efforts."
Hossaini has worked on the cutting edge of television for many years. As Director of Acquisitions he built a library of premium cultural programming from Europe, Asia and North America. Previously he developed two Emmy-nominated iTV channels, Metro Traffic Interactive and Metro Weather Interactive. The ambient channel LAB HD, which was broadcast from 2003 to 2005, is on permanent exhibit at the American Museum of the Moving Image. Prior to Rainbow, he spent two years as a vice president during the start-up of Oxygen Media, where he developed social networking and business strategy.
Hossaini is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He serves on the Board of Advisors for Anthology Film Archives. He received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994.
Hossaini's recent credits include the VOOM PORTRAITS BY ROBERT WILSON, an artistic venture of over 50 high-definition video portraits, created by the celebrated theater icon and visual artist Robert Wilson. The VOOM PORTRAITS illustrate the aesthetic and technical brilliance of the newest generation of television and feature celebrity subjects including Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder, Johnny Depp, Selma Hayek, and Princess Caroline of Monaco. They were created under the auspices of Hossaini, serving as the project catalyst, by first approaching Wilson to collaborate on a series of works for exhibition on both VOOM HD Networks and in free-standing form at galleries. Ali Hossaini serves as Executive Producer for THE VOOM PORTRAITS.
