WE tv LAUNCHES “GIF SYNC,” A NEW SOCIAL EXPERIENCE FOR SHARING REAL-TIME GIFS AND MEMES DURING THE NETWORK’S PROGRAMMING

“GIF SYNC” LAUNCHES ALONGSIDE THE SEASON PREMIERE OF “MARRIAGE BOOT CAMP REALITY STARS,” JANUARY 9, 2015

NEW YORK, NY — January 9, 2015 — WE tv is launching “GIF Sync,” a first-of-its kind social experience to enhance viewer engagement and social media activity during its popular unscripted shows.  Integrated into the WE tv app, “GIF Sync” will serve up real-time shareable GIFs, memes and a dedicated feed of show-related tweets during linear airings of WE tv originals. “GIF Sync” will launch as a companion digital experience to the season two premiere of one of WE tv’s highest-rated series, “Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars,” on Friday, January 9.

“GIF Sync is yet another great digital extension from WE tv that harnesses the power of social media activity and engagement to drive conversations around our buzz-worthy unscripted shows,” said Marc Juris, WE tv’s president.  “Viewers are a driving force behind what makes a show pop culture relevant, and as they become increasingly more social we want to be there to capture those conversations and offer them unique experiences that complement our programming.”

“GIF Sync” is available exclusively within the newly redesigned WE tv app and utilizes Audible Magic ACR technology to sync a viewer’s mobile device with the linear network.  Once a device is synced, viewers will receive GIFs and memes taken right from scenes of original episodes as they happen and will be able to share them instantly on a variety of social platforms.

The app also features a real-time feed of all #MarriageBootCamp tweets, allowing users to experience and further participate in the social conversation happening around the show. At the end of each episode, users will be served a comprehensive gallery of that episode’s GIFs and memes, all of which will continue to be shareable.

The WE tv app is available on iOS and Android-enabled devices.  “GIF Sync” is the second recent social experience launched within the WE tv app.  “WE-D” the first-ever TV series application of 360° camera technology allows viewers to see alternate views of a WE tv original series in real time, on mobile devices.
